Two ways to automate stain → coverslip → scan

Choose a fixed, all-in-one KFBIO line when you want a turnkey wet-lab-to-scan chain; choose a multi-island robot layout when you need flexible placement for new builds and small-to-mid size labs.

KFBIO fixed integrated staining, coverslipping and scanning line

Fixed integrated line
Fixed stain–coverslip–scan system

A single, hard-coupled production line that links KFBIO staining, coverslipping and scanning under one overhead transport path — short hand-offs and a highly standardized process.

Strengths
  • Full KFBIO wet-lab + scan stack from one vendor
  • Mature, stable process path with minimal manual transfer
  • Predictable quality for routine, continuous batches
Trade-offs
  • Throughput is capped by the fixed line design
  • High floor-space / depth requirement for the full line
  • Harder to rearrange once installed; less flexible for irregular rooms
Multi-island robotic scanning center with flexible layout

Multi-island
Robot-decoupled multi-island layout

A collaborative robot flexibly decouples coverslipper and scanner placement. Stations can be arranged as Dual-core / Quad-core / Eight-core islands instead of one long fixed line.

Strengths
  • Flexible floor plan — place modules where the room allows
  • Ideal for new laboratories and small-to-mid size labs
  • Scale by adding islands; retrofit existing Leica / Sakura coverslippers
Trade-offs
  • Needs robot integration and layout planning up front
  • Best when space is limited or not a long linear bay
  • Phased expansion instead of one single large line

PRX-S / M / L robotic scanning centers

KF-PRX-S dual-core robotic scanning center

Dual-core
Dual-core scanning center
  • 1 robot arm loading 2 scanners
  • Compact footprint for small / mid labs
  • Continuous robotic slide loading
One-time max load960 slides
Scan speed160 / hour
24h continuous3,840 / day

KF-PRX-M quad-core robotic scanning center

Quad-core
Quad-core scanning center
  • 1 robot arm loading 4 scanners
  • 2×2 stacked layout to save floor space
  • Higher throughput for busy labs
One-time max load1,920 slides
Scan speed320 / hour
24h continuous7,680 / day

KF-PRX-L eight-core robotic scanning center

Eight-core
Eight-core scanning center
  • 1 robot arm loading 8 scanners
  • L-shaped dual-stack workstation
  • Scanning-center scale automation
One-time max load3,840 slides
Scan speed640 / hour
24h continuous15,360 / day

Each configuration uses one collaborative robot arm for continuous load / unload. The same robot platform can also retrofit hand-off from existing Leica / Sakura coverslippers into the digital line.

Step 4 · Digitization

A scanner for every scale and slide type

KFBIO scanners span from single-bench clinical units to unattended scanning centers. Match the model to your scenario today and scale up as you grow.

KF-PRX capacity & throughput

KF-PRX model Scale Capacity Throughput Highlights
KF-PRX-S Small lab 120 slides 100 / hour Continuous loading, 3rd-gen KF core
KF-PRX-M Mid-size lab 480 slides 100 / hour Slide-bin compatible, conventional + cytology ultra-depth
KF-PRX-L Large lab 640 slides 100 / hour High-capacity continuous loading
KF-PRX-XL Scanning center 1200 slides 200 / hour Dual-core, automatic slide sorting while scanning
The KF-PRX platform also extends into brightfield + fluorescence, cytology ultra-depth, research and oil-immersion models — covering histology, cytology, IHC and special stains.

True to the microscope

ICC color correction — consistent, accurate color

Scanner color varies batch-to-batch, model-to-model and vendor-to-vendor. KFBIO applies ICC color correction based on standard color charts so digital slides faithfully reproduce what the pathologist sees down the microscope.

Step 5 · Image management

KF-DSMS — the cornerstone of digital image management

KF-DSMS is the digital slide management system that organizes, indexes and serves whole-slide images across the laboratory — the foundation the rest of the digital workflow is built on.

Step 6 · Storage

Storage tailored to your data and budget

Whole-slide images are large (1–3 GB each) and must be retained for 15–30 years. KFBIO offers a tiered storage strategy — from high-performance professional storage to an economical desktop option, and compatibility with mainstream cloud platforms.

Step 7 · Reading

Reading — multi-screen & synchronized viewing

The KFBIO viewer is built for the way pathologists actually work — across several displays and comparing multiple images side by side.

Step 8 · Intelligence

KFBIO AI models — open to third-party AI

A growing portfolio of KFBIO in-house AI models runs directly on the platform, while an open interface lets you plug in third-party AI algorithms as well.

Plus an open AI interface to integrate external / third-party diagnostic models alongside KFBIO’s own.

Quality, automated

Professional AI quality control

AI quality control runs at two levels — on the digital image and on the physical slide — so only high-quality, diagnosable material moves downstream.

Step 9 · Archiving

Archiving — physical and digital

Cases are archived both ways — the physical glass is stored for regulatory retention while the digital slide is indexed for instant electronic retrieval.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Yes. Our slide transport robot is designed to retrofit common Leica and Sakura coverslippers, so you can go digital without replacing working wet-lab equipment.
Yes. KF-DSMS is vendor-neutral — it manages images from mainstream third-party scanners as well as KFBIO scanners, so a mixed fleet lives in one library.
The scanner range covers histology, cytology, immunohistochemistry (IHC) and special stains, in both brightfield and fluorescence. KF-PRO-005 supports frozen sections, and KF-PRO-005/020 support Mega Slide large-format glass for prostate and other whole-mount sections.
Yes. The KFBIO viewer supports multi-screen reading and lets you open multiple images on one screen with synchronized pan and zoom, so H&E, IHC and special stains can be compared in lock-step.
Both physically and digitally. A robot transports physical slides to the archive room, while digital slides are electronically archived and searchable by type, disease/subject, date and other criteria.
KFBIO applies ICC color correction based on standard color charts (up to 288 colors, multi-card calibration), so images stay true to microscopy and consistent across models and vendors.
Whole-slide images are typically 1–3 GB each and are retained for 15–30 years. We offer tiered professional storage with lossless compression, an economical desktop option, and compatibility with mainstream cloud platforms for hybrid or off-site retention.
Yes. KFBIO provides its own AI models (e.g. LBC Cervical, LBC Thyroid, Colon, Stomach) and an open interface to integrate third-party AI models alongside them.
