A Historic Milestone: Launch of the Latin American Society of Digital Pathology (LASDP)
Digital pathology in Latin America has reached a milestone. The Latin American Society of Digital Pathology (LASDP) is now official. This initiative launched at SLAP2025. It marks a unified regional effort. The goal is to advance digital pathology. It also strengthens collaboration and accelerates innovation.
A Regional Movement Gaining Momentum
Latin American countries are adopting digital pathology fast. Yet many institutions face similar challenges. These include infrastructure and workflow issues. Training and system interoperability also need work. The LASDP creates a needed platform. It brings experts, labs, and universities together. Industry partners also join this effort. They address challenges as a group. Knowledge exchange and coordinated development will grow. The LASDP can transform the region’s healthcare.
Leadership and Vision Behind ALPD
Special recognition goes to Dr. Andrés Mosquera Zamudio, MD, PhD(c). His leadership through Programa GLORIA has been central. He guided this initiative with care. His long-term commitment connects the pathology community. He empowers experts across Latin America. This work laid the foundation for LASDP. The association reflects a shared vision. That vision enables fair access to quality diagnostics. It also builds digital capabilities in healthcare institutions.
Digital Pathology: From Future to Reality
Digital pathology is rapidly becoming the new standard of practice. Whole slide imaging, AI-assisted diagnostics, and cloud-based collaboration platforms are transforming how pathologists work, communicate, and train.
These technologies open the door to faster diagnostics, improved efficiency, and broader access to specialist expertise—even in remote or underserved areas. The LASDP will play a key role in promoting these advancements and ensuring their sustainable and safe integration into routine practice.
